This list is from 2009. I wrote this while waiting for traffic to die down and while doing homework and listening to Michael Jackson.

1.) If a group of intimidating hooligans threaten you, just BEAT IT !

Keep the flight in “flight or fight” classy. A gang wants to throw down ? Just dance away, cuz. Dance away.

2.) The best kind of criminal is a SMOOTH CRIMINAL.

Smooth criminals make large appearances and mysterious disappearances. They’re never caught ! And also, they like to kill instead of steal. So perhaps this song should have been called “Smooth Serial” ?

3.) Being called a PYT is the only derogatory term you should be okay with.

As I learned in elementary, “things” are under nouns, which include “people” and “places.” This means things are separate from people. But it’s cool, as long as you’re pretty and young !

4.) WHY YOU WANNA TRIP ON celebrities when you can trip on actual issues ?

5.) If you’re thinking ’bout my baby…it don’t matter if you’re BLACK OR WHITE !

I won’t deny it, this song totally has mixed messages and too general of a theme. But still.

6.) Do think twice…especially with anyone named BILLIE JEAN or DIRTY DIANA. They both always WANNA BE STARTIN’ SOMETHIN’ !

No one’s gonna believe Billie Jean isn’t your lover if you’ve been dancing with that hussy since three a.m. ! And no one wants a call from Dirty Diana. (As a side note: don’t trip on the haters; you can do it !)

7.) Being BAD means being able to sing and dance with weapons.

And by “Bad,” I really mean “AWESOME.”

8.) Always REMEMBER THE TIME.

And Egyptians ! And Magic Johnson.

9.) If someone says they wanna ROCK WITH YOU or that YOU ROCK MY WORLD, it probably entails more than just dancing.

…But it’s still a sexy come-on, especially if that someone is wearing a sparkly suit !

10.) The best kind of a thriller is THRILLER.

11.) Love is all about THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL.

And guess what ? “It ain’t nobody’s business but mine and my baby’s.”

12.) DON’T STOP ‘TILL YOU GET ENOUGH.

13.) When your best friend asks you, “WILL YOU BE THERE?” you better respond with a resounding “hells yes.”

This is an old post from October 2010.

I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking that when I say “Hacktintosh,” I really mean “hey guys, I just installed Windoze Sev on my MacBook Pro LOL” or “omg MAC OS X on my Dell laptop yaa~!”

But really–

I built my first desktop in years–the last one I had mentally exploded back in 2006–then installed both Windows 7 and Snow Leopard. Originally, it was only going to run Mac OS X. I figured since I had the space, why not use Windows as well? Anyway. THIS IS MY JOURNEY… I can’t remember where I started or how I became interested in the idea of a hackintosh, but here’s a link I stumbled across sometime last year:

This guy Hisham had questioned what a lot of us thought: why the hell is a Mac Pro so expensive? So he did what anyone would do…he built his own system to match the Mac Pro. What attracted me to Hisham’s post (versus the multitude of other hackintosh blogs) was the fact that he was trying to build a rig primarily for video & graphics–my areas of interest. Long beginning short, I got to reading and researching and lurking on a bunch of forums like a bona fide creeper. In the end, I decided on this build:

Plugging in wires, unscrewing and rescrewing, and firmly knocking things in place is a lot easier than it looks. The hard part wasn’t the actual building and placement, but figuring out the best way to configure software. After I put everything together, I flashed my BIOS to the latest update, which happened to be F12 (F13 is still in beta). You can get these off your mobo’s manufacturer’s website.

Originally I got an ATI card (specifically Sapphire) over nVidia. It was running into problems I couldn’t fix, and so I decided to RMA and buy an MSI. I didn’t run into any problems after that with the BIOS.

After getting all the BIOS stuff finished, installing Windows was easy. I created a partition on my WD and made room for both Windows 7 and Snow Leopard. After I was done installing Windows 7, I booted from a USB Flash Drive to install Snow Leopard. While I have tried installing Chameleon so that I can just choose which OS to run on the welcome screen, I don’t like how I can’t change the resolution of my Mac OS. It’s stuck in this horrific 1024 x 760 mode which looks terrible on my 1920 x 1080 screen. Apparently that isn’t fixable, so for now I am simply booting from the CDROM (which has iBoot in it) and choosing Mac or Windows at the start up. Eventually, I’ll just install & run Boot Camp.

I’m still on the lookout for a few more parts. I’m considering getting two more fans: one to add as a third fan, and another to replace the stock CPU fan because my cores are always around 50 – 60 C. Fan noise doesn’t really bother me–no clue why–so I’m not too picky about it.I had some trouble with the SSD I bought, so instead of using that as the boot drive, I made the WD 640GB my boot drive (instead of my storage drive). I figure once enough support comes out for SSD usage in hackintosh and dual-boots, I’ll try updating my system. I’m probably just going to get another WD drive for storage…there’s always deals on Newegg for them, anyway, and I’ve been pretty loyal since their HDD’s haven’t died on me. I’m also looking for a new keyboard, and possibly a new mouse to use in place of my Wacom tablet. I’ll add a pair of headphones to that list as well, once I find a decent pair.

So while I still have a few more things to tweak and a couple more items to buy, I’m exceptionally pleased with my new computer. I’m planning on taking it for an intense HD editing spin one of these days. I still have all my footage from various projects on my two external WD HDDs’, so that’ll be fun. Now that I’m using Windows again, I can finally get back to using Avid. The only time I got to dabble in it was during school and between classes in the computer labs.

What I’m most excited for is the HD rendering; once I decide on my next camera, I’m planning on doing a lot of stop-motion tests for my next short. And now that this computer project is over (finally!), stop-motion is next…and I’ve got my eyes on Dragon.

For anyone out there who wants to create their own Haxxinator (I always give my computers a name), feel free to check out this immense list of resources.

My name spelled backwards is eiramillib. I didn’t know that until after I picked eira.

I decided to embrace the process of self-growth by organically stumbling upon a new name. “Eira” just sort of popped into my head.

In my research, I found that eira is a variation of Eir/Eira. She’s a goddess/valkyrie in Norse mythology. “Help” and “mercy” is essentially what it translates to. The goddess herself has medical skills, the ability to heal. Perfect, right? It’s all a beautiful splash of synchronicity to me, seeing as I have been trying to take the first steps toward self-healing and rejuvenation.

With that being said. It’s my hope that through creating art and projects for my own healing and happiness, you can find some rejuvenation of your own. Stay tuned for Hello Eira Press & Studio, which was pretty much founded in 2011 with the desire to publish and promote my art-inclined friends.

Just so you know. I may or may not know exactly what I’m talking about in the following paragraphs.

best trailer ever.

okay. well. I hate when people supposedly “review” shit but actually just give long summaries of what happened. Quick recap for the slackers: young guy gets killed while coming down DMT and trying to sell 50+ MDMA. turns out his punk-ass friend (who, by the way, has a milf for a ma) turned him in. druggie-homeless-bff Alex is pretty upset. Lil sis is, too. She’s too busy having boring stripper sex with her semi-pimp to get the phone call. But then she does. Oh, I forgot to mention the awesome trippy hallucinatory effects. As well as the transitions. So this guy is dead and pretty much just spying on everyone, or so we can assume, because at the end there is a penis inside a vagina and he is basically reborn as is sister and best friend’s kid? Oops. Spoiler.

this trailer tells the story a bit more.

I think you will love and hate this movie, simultaneously, like I did. Why? Because I know you. And I know you’ve looked into the Tibetan Book of the Dead, and you’ve considered realities beyond the sober one we’re used to, and I know you’ve either experimented or are currently experimenting with drugs/sex. Why the fuck else are you watching this movie!?

anyway. With a bit of editing, trimming, this could have been PERFECT. The transitions were awesome at first–woah, strobe lights! sweet. and now we’re floating above the city! wee.–but then they quickly became tiresome. Way too long. Too repetitive. And too many in too many intervals. (That’s what she said…? Yikes.) Pacing, scarcity, and precise points would have made these transitions not only beautiful but spiritually orgasmic.

I loved the narrative. I don’t just mean the story, but the way the story was told: favorite scene, where we’re voyeurs into his past and he dips into the pool, then comes back up in the tub. Awesome. Loved going back and forth between past, present, future…then again, what is time really but an illusion? To this dead guy, time is irrelevant–and so, it becomes irrelevant to the story.

the aborted fetus. I didn’t know it still had that shape when it’s that tiny. It was a really sad and somber scene, even if all we were looking at was a VFX rendition from various zooms and angles. As someone on IMDB mentioned, it definitely reinforced my stance on abortion. which I am keeping vague on purpose.

great moment in the film: intense drug dealer grabs that semi-conscious guy off his couch and seduces him into snorting more…whatever that powder was. Was more than a fantastic character moment, but a great visual metaphor for the entire movie: the depressing, seedy nature of illegal drugs in general, especially considering a place like Japan (Tokyo) where these drugs are even more illegal than they are here. And just the culture of this hardcore scene which is all about trying to experience a higher version of life, but ultimately ending up emptier, depressed, and without purpose. please be careful what you get addicted to.

now. everything you’ve been waiting for. THE LOVE HOTEL. Woah, awesome. Sex in a myriad (not really) of ways. I was totally down with the glowing genitalia, especially the vaginas, but the dicks…they were like meaty glow-sticks that ultimately didn’t work as well. And I don’t think snapping them in half and shaking them around while you rave would have worked. I liked the idea they were ultimately going for: this glowing light inside us, inside all of us, that actually is us. Beautiful whispers of wispy, trailing smoke brights, gently seeping out of us women while we have sex. Yes. Nice.

Then of course, that punk-ass Victor getting his karma in the Love Hotel: sucking off those guys in the elevator. Sister and Alex finally getting it on. I really hope he took a shower before this all started happening. Did anyone else laugh at the CGI penis/vagina scene? Totally out of place. I guess they wanted us to see the semen spurt out of his cock and deep into the thralls of her vagina so we would definitely know that a.) she’s probably preggers, and b.) brother is now becoming son in this twisted story of life, sex, love.

I recommend this movie for the colors and visual effects. I found out about this while researching movies that actually show what tripping is like–I was planning on doing it for my own film, but I’ve changed my mind after seeing this. That DMT scene in the beginning is excellent. Perfect blend of convoluted, quick, resonant, echoing thoughts mixed in with an array of colors, music, lights, vibrations, patterns, life, general awesomeness. 10/10. If you’re on the fence about investing ten minutes of torrent download time for this movie, the DMT scene definitely pushes you towards that “download” button. It probably also pushes you more into the “try DMT” lane, in general. But you were probably already there if you’ve heard of this movie.

the infamous DMT scene. visual brilliance.

Besides the DMT scene (which is in the first 10 minutes of the film, don’t worry), the camera movements post-character’s death and the lens distortions and compositions really add to the trippiness. It’s not too drastic, at least not to the point where you’re thinking, “geez, some teenager’s shitty photos just became high-class pieces of crap with their brand-new fisheye lens.” The film definitely got the proportion distortion down, as well as the simultaneous muddy, highly saturated vision. I also really enjoyed being able to see more than one vantage point with the way they comp’ed all these shots together.

Gorgeous cinematography, and I for one really enjoyed the first-person angle pre-death. Post-death, the ethereal slow, gliding movements were surreal. And the locations? Jesus. I fucking love colors, lights, and shiny things. Maybe I should move to Tokyo? Here are a few of my favorite colorful locations.

Opening credits. Wow. Immediate pull. Sounds flashes club fast fast fast more lots colors movement motion in your face full immediate ENTER! Echoes precicely the club drug scene the film pulls from. (Make sure you watch the video below in HD FULL SCREEN)

opening credits eyespasm

I think somewhere along the way in this review, I changed my mind. The parts I thought I hated, I now am only somewhat annoyed at. And the parts I thought I loved, I actually double-love. Triple-love, perhaps. I’m not sure why people watch this while high or tripping, because this film really in itself is a trip. Gaspar Noé accomplished exactly what he intended: to create a movie which realistically portrays not only the illegal drug club scene, but shows you exactly what a trip is like. Seriously impressive, considering all that went into it: the “out of body” transcendent movement, visual effects, lighting, color, set design, sound, music, editing. He even got the nostalgic family/childhood splices, too.

Here’s one of my favorite scenes. It was a dick of a time creating this animated gif, so I hope you shove it around tumblr with my name attached to it:

Here are several songs which, to the astute listener, have nothing to do with breaking up…and yet, genius reviewers have managed to stretch their broken relationship blues onto every living that moves.

No wonder I love this game.

1.) Staring at Tetris colors for a long, long time. Woah.

@_@

2.) Witnessing insane movements during the game. Who knew that maneuver was even possible?! And so beautiful…

Sweet mod. Does it spin?

3.) When you step away from the game, you start to see Tetris pieces (known as tetrominoes) floating everywhere: on your wall, in your dreams, as closed-eye visuals.

Is this real life or am I Tetris-ing

4.) Long after you’ve finished the game, you will attempt to break past your normal reality and integrate the Tetris mentality. Usually, this means organizing your thoughts as though LIFE IS A TRIP TETRIS. Examples? Let me roate this motorcycle sideways and slide under this mailbox and maybe bring this streetlight closer. Bend this person to the right and bring this couch down sideways…

...think you fucked up somewhere, dude.

5.) You can’t. Stop. Thinking. About. TETRIS~!! You start researching strategies online. Try different versions. You’re able to step back and take breaks because it’s not physically addictive, but that doesn’t mean you won’t go in for another session in which the cycle of life Tetris begins to reveal its beautiful mysteries to you.

Exhibit A: Preparing the ritual worship with decorations on le body.

6.) Even the rules between a bad trip and a bad game are the same.

Go with the flow, even if the flow ceases to exist.
